Tampa Cargo

June 23rd, 2009

As I mentioned before, Tampa Cargo S.A. will send the donations to Colombia next week. The donations will be recieved in the city of Barranquilla (two hours away from Cartagena) and will be claimed by a close family member in Colombia. If the donations are not sent next week, they will be sent on July 8th so I can personally claim them in Barranquilla on July 10th.

To Colombia from Fernando

June 23rd, 2009

After more than a week of not updating this blog, I am very happy to report good news. Last week was without a doubt the busiest week of the campaign. I can confirm that the cargo company Tampa Cargo, a subsidiary of Avianca Airlines, will take the donations to Colombia next week. I was in the city of Miami, Florida the past Monday, June 15th and I could confirm the cargo. I also have the pleasure of announcing that Beyond the Wall will become a nonprofit organization this week. The organization will be named the Beyond the Wall Organization for obvious reasons. The most important event last week was the end of picking up donations. I am very happy with the result because up until today, I am still receiving calls to pick up donations but unfortunately, I cannot. From Titusville to Poinciana, all of Central Florida has given me a tremendous amount of help. The Hispanic community responded to my call for help for the residents of El Talon, Colombia in a positive manner. I have a lot of appreciation for everyone. I want everyone that is reading this to know that my work never got me tired and those that met me know that it true. I knew that my hard work would benefit the needy. I feel very satisfied with what I accomplished in this important phase of the campaign. Me I have attached pictures of the donations I received and my van that helped me so much.

An interesting note: When my parents gave me the van in April, I hated it because I thought nobody was going to like it. When I began using it and picking up donations, I could not have wanted any other car. I don't care if nobody likes it because I love it. Thanks Mom and Dad for the great gift because now I wont let you guys sell it for anything.

On Friday, June 12th, U-Haul donated 30 brand new large boxes to use when I send the donations to Colombia. I want to thank Peggy Engquist, President of U-Haul Orlando, for approving the donation.

1580 AM

June 14th, 2009

After La Prensa published the article on Beyond the Wall, I received many calls and one of them was from the Spanish radio station, Latina 1580 AM. They wanted to interview me on their afternoon show Abriendo Puertas the same day they called me. I did not refuse and went to the station after the call. I was interviewed for about 40 minutes and answered many questions from people calling the station. It was a successful interview. Thank you 1580 AM!

La Prensa

Saturday, June 14th, 2009

As posted earlier, La Prensa posted an article about Beyond the Wall on Thursday, June 11th. I have lost count on how many people have emailed and called me regarding the article. I want to once again thank Italis Loperena and Diana Raquel for the help. Here is a picture of the article:

How has Beyond the Wall grown since April 24th? Find out this Friday on La Grande 1030 AM

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Beyond the Wall has grown a tremendous amount since my interview on La Grande 1030 AM back in April. My interview with Fernando Negron and El Guajiro was not only my first interview, it was the most successful one. I received a minimum of thirty calls just from that interview and I am happy to report that I still have contact with some of the people that called me. Fernando Negron and El Guajiro have given me another opportunity to speak on their show this Friday, June 12th a little after 11 am about the progress of Beyond the Wall. They also want me to speak on their show once again in August (when I return from Colombia) to speak about Beyond the Wall Colombia's completion and beginning of Beyond the Wall Guatemala. I want to thank them because I really appreciate them giving me these opportunities. Make sure to listen this Friday!

An opportunity for the youth in Colombia

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

As mentioned before, I will have live musical performances during the Beyond the Wall Event/ Distribution in El Talon, Colombia on July 17th, 2009. I think it would be a great opportunity for young local musicians to perform and get their music heard. El Talon is located in the municipality of Turbaco and there, you will find all kinds of musicians. I have confirmed the performances of two talented music groups (as of June 10th) from Turbaco. The first one is called "Grupo de Gaita Costumbres del Folclor de Turbaco". They play gaita, a folkloric genre of music in the carribean coast of Colombia. The group is very interesting because they dance and play their music. They are all teenagers. Here is a video of them performing:

I also have the pleasure of having the local band called "Madera Viva". This group composes and performs its own music. They are all young and are quite popular in Turbaco. Below is also a video of them performing:

I can't be any happier to have these two great musical groups because not only do they play very well, they have an opportunity to be heard in an important event.

Change of dates

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

This post is to announce the change of dates for the Beyond the Wall Campaign.
  • The last day I will be picking up donations will be on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009. (Original date was Saturday, June 20th)
  • Between June 18th (Thursday) and June 20th (Saturday), I will dedicate those days to wash some of the clothes donated.
  • Between June 21st (Sunday) and June 23rd (Tuesday), I will dedicate those days to pack everything into boxes.
  • I am trying to coordinate a date to send all the donations to Colombia with the cargo company, but it should be on June 25th (Thursday).
  • The Beyond the Wall Campaign Event/Distribution in Colombia will be on Friday, July 17th, 2009.

The reason I have decided to move up the dates is because I do not want to have any issues with the shipping of the donations. In other words, it is just to be better prepared. I will end this post with an update on the donations (it's a lot more donations in person and more still need to be picked up):

Saint Paul AME Church and Central Florida News 13

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Yesterday, June 5th, I had to pick up donations from the Saint Paul AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church and Central Florida News 13 was there to record it all. It all began when my interview on News 13 was on the air a couple of weeks ago and a man named Mr. Willis became interested in the project. He contacted News 13 for more information and they contacted me with Mr. Willis' information. I called Mr. Willis and he said that he would get donations for me in a couple of weeks. On Thursday, June 4th, I finally received the call from Mr. Willis and the Pastor of the Saint Paul AME Church to pick up the donations the following day. I contacted News 13 and they became interested in the church and I. When I picked up the donations at the church yesterday, News 13 was present and interviewed Mr. Willis and I. I will also have a presentation at the church very soon. The interview will also be on the air soon, as well. If you miss it, I will post it on this website. Thank you very much Mr. Willis and Central Florida News 13.

La Prensa

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Italis Loperena, a reporter for the Spanish language newspaper La Prensa interviewed me today about Beyond the Wall. Italis knew who I was because she works with Diana Raquel from Mega 98.1 FM and Diana recommended her to me. The interview went well and will be published on Thursday, June 11th. I really appreciate what Diana Raquel did for me and Italis Loperena's interest in me. Make sure to get a copy of La Prensa on Thursday!

Isa Mebarak supports Beyond the Wall

July 5th, 2009

Isa Mebarak, a star on the rise from Barranquilla, Colombia and the cousin of Shakira is supporting Beyond the Wall. I contacted her agent to coordinate the possibility of Isa's presence at my event in El Talon, Colombia on July 15th. Unfortunately, she cannot attend because she will be in Mexico during those days but she will send a video showing her support for the campaign. I really appreciate her support and I wish Isa the best of luck in Mexico. Below are two videos in Spanish that show exactly who Isa Mebarak is:

Castle Creek Elementary Support

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Ms. Ortiz (from Castle Creek Elementary School and my fifth grade teacher) and Dr. Taylor (Principal of Castle Creek Elementary School) invited me to give a speech at the Castle Creek Elementary 5th Grade Ceremony about the importance of goal setting on Tuesday, June 2nd. The ceremony went well and the speech was a success, as well. That same day I also received donations from students that listened to my presentation about Beyond the Wall back on Tuesday, May 26th. I am happy to report that even though the 2008-2009 school year came to an end yesterday, June 3rd, I still have to pick up donations from Castle Creek. I want to thank Castle Creek Elementary for all the support.
